This is a wonderful antique English George III silver lidded tankard with hallmarks for London 1773 and the makers mark of the renowned silversmiths John King. The tankard has wonderful embossed floral decorations throughout with a blank cartouche ready to be engraved. There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector. Condition: In excellent condition with clear hallmarks and no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation. Free, 3 August 1757. First mark entered as plateworker, 22 April 1775. Address: 73 Little Britain. Second mark, 14 June 1775. Thirs, 13 June 1777. Fourth, 3 September 1779. Fifth, 11 August 1785. Address: 1 Moor Lane, Fore Street. Sixth mark, 4 September 1789. Address: Moor Lane, where Heal records him till 1800. His son Joseph was apprenticed to him 5 January 1780, when King is described as of Little Britain, plateworker, Citizen and Goldsmith.
