Walnut veneer was highly priced and the cost would reflect the ‘fanciness’ of the veneer – the more decorative, then the more expensive and desirable. Skeldon House is a magnificent B-listed 18th-century Georgian country house situated in approximately 192 acres of land. The house was owned by the wealthy Duke of Portland in 1867 and in 1908 the famous Scottish architect James Miller carried out alterations and additions including a dome-roofed entrance and impressive south-facing conservatory.
