This is a beautiful English antique George III silver coffee pot with wonderful embossed decoration. It has hallmarks for London 1827 and the makers mark of William Elliott. The Arms of the Family of Nun The arms as engraved upon this George III English Sterling Silver Coffee Pot by William Elliott hallmarked London 1827 are those of the family of Nun. They may be blazoned as follows: Arms: Quarterly 1st and 4th Argent a saltire gules between four lions’ gambs erect and erased proper (for Nun) 2nd Argent an eagle displayed on a chief wavy azure an escallop between two fleur de lys and 3rd Vert two estoiles in chief and fleur de lys in bas. Crest: A bull’s head erased vert* * Another authority stated that the crest is: ‘A bull’s head erased per fess vert and or’. There are a number of gentry families of the name Nun/Nunn who bear similar arms as depicted in the first quarter, together with the bull’s head crest; notably the family of Nunn, of St Margaret’s in the County of Wexford, together with another Nunn family, of Hill Castle in the same county. There are also a number of Nunn families in the eastern counties of England, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk who have borne the same arms and crest.
