This is a fabulous antique Art Deco Period cocktail cabinet sideboard, circa 1930 in date. It is quite rare in that it is made of fabulous satinwood which is of the very best qualty, note the fabulous grain to the wood. The cabinet is of stepped and break fronted form with a short back. The centre section is organised with a concertina cocktail section with circular cutouts for bottles and glasses, and the mirror back interior is fitted with cocktail sticks and a lemon squeezer. Below this there is a useful fitted cutlery drawer, and a pull out slide, useful when serving drinks, above a pair of doors which enclose a fitted interior with three drawers. The large doors on either end of the cabinet each open to reveal a cupboard with a shelf and a drawer. The sideboard is raised on an elegant inset plinth base and has working locks with the original keys. It is a very elegant and fun piece which will blend well with contemporary interiors. The lustrous, fine-grained, usually figured wood is used for furniture, cabinetwork, veneers, and backs of brushes. West Indian satinwood, sometimes called yellow wood, is considered superior. It is the golden yellow, lustrous, even-grained wood found in the Florida Keys and the West Indies. It has long been valued for furniture.
