DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century German Solid Silver figural table ornament modelled as a female fishmonger, standing on a large shaped-oval base decorated with flowers, the large sculpture is very large and beautifully modelled, the right hand holding an eel, pull-off head, the base is also applied with barrels containing fish and a tray with a sliced tuna. The figure is one of the largest, most unusual and better made amongst the many produced in Hanau in the late 19th century.
The piece is German silver (900+ standard), made in Hanau, pseudo mark for Schleissner & Sohne, the most important Hanau silversmith specializing in Renaissance and Baroque revival pieces. This is probably a piece inspired by the German 17th century novelty cup and covers and it dates to 1880's.
