### DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Imperial Russian 18k gold snuff box, of rectangular form with rounded corners, beautifully engraved with engine turned decoration, lid applied with a cast floral thumbpiece. Hallmarked with Russian 72 gold marks (750 standard), St. Petersburg, Assay mark possibly year 1835, French import marks (1838-present), inventory number 4894, Makers mark Keibel. Keibel workshop (active 1768-1910) is considered as one of the most important Russian Imperial jewelers specialising in gold boxes and medals, in 1836 Keibel Junior was commissioned to make the Russian Imperial crown and later important Imperial medals and orders.
