DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century Georgian exceptional rococo style solid silver pair of tea caddies, of rectangular form, profusely embossed in the Chinoiserie style, the panels depicting c-scrolls and flowers surrounding Chinese figures, lions and pagodas, hinged lid with vacant cartooches. Such Chinoiserie style tea caddies became particularly popular in the mid-18th century with the Huguenot silversmiths, such as Paul de Lamerie who was greatly inspired by the exotic far east designs. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1834 (t), Maker's mark J.A I.A (Joseph Angell I & Joseph Angel II).
