This beautiful sculpture is an example of the fine craftsmanship of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892), one of the best bronze casters in 19th century Paris.The sculpture depicts Moses, following the model of the famous sculptor Michelangelo (1475-1564). He made the sculpture of Moses for the tomb of Pope Julius II in the San Pietro in Vincoli church in Rome. The seated Biblical figure is depicted with horns on the head and the tablets of the law under the arm. The sculpture has a square pedestal. It is signed ' F. Barbedienne Fondeur' and has the stamp 'Reduction Mechanique A Collas'.Foundry:Barbedienne, Ferdinand (French, 1810-1892). Country of provenance:France. Dated:2nd half of the 19th century.
