**A small bronze figure of Krishna**

**16th century, South India**

The solid cast figure stands on a lotus base upon a square stand, his right leg is raised in dance and supported by a stump, his left arm is outstretched with fingers slopping downwards, his right arm bent and holding a fresh butter ball that he has just stolen from the kitchen, his chubby body naked but for ornamental jewellery, with smiling face and hair raised into a top knot. The patina is rich and dark.
