A fine Louis style gilt bronze mounted marquetry secrétaire à abattant. The Breccia marble top with protruding canted corners above a frieze drawer, the hinged fall front embellished with marquetry of a flower basket hanging from a tied ribbon, opening to reveal an interior with sunburst parquetry back panel above six small drawers and a leather inlaid writing surface. All above two panelled doors, the canted corners with inlay simulating fluting. On short square tapering legs and gilt bronze sabots.The lock engraved: 'E. Printz fils Paris'.The menuiserie E. Printz Fils was located at the 12 Rue St. Bernard Paris. On a 1908 postcard the name Printz (Eug.) can be found as well as 'meubles d'art'. The menuiserie produced copies of 18th century models in various styles and it is known that the son Eugène Printz (1889 - 1948) started his carreer here. From 1920 on Eugène Jr. started creating furniture in the 'modern' taste.Dimensions: 148 x 85 x 45 cm.Condition: very good, see images.
