A dark brown patinated bronze statue of the Venus de Milo after the Antique. The plinth inscribed F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR and also stamped with Achille Collas reduction sealAphrodite of Milos or better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture.Created sometime between 130 and 100 BC, the statue is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus to the Romans). It is a marble sculpture, slightly larger than life size at 203 cm in height. Part of both arms and the original plinth were lost following its discovery and rudimentary excavation. Only the left shoulder stunt has been preserved. It is currently on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. For further information please see Wikipedia.The statue is named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered.This Barbedienne cast is considered as the best replica of this most famous Greek sculpture and was reduced by the patented Achilles Collas technique in late 19th century.
